    Job Responsibilities:

    • Will attend pre-construction meetings and highlight/identify potential key hazards for JPL, review contractor site safety plans, IIPP and related compliance programs.
    • Will regularly and professionally perform field health & safety inspections of construction and facilities work locations to ensure compliance with NASA construction safety prime contract requirements and with construction and general industry safety orders (GISO) regulations as found in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations.
    • Make recommendations for workplace changes to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
    • Partner with a construction safety mentor and other Subject Matter Experts (SME) and work collaboratively and in consultation with team members to provide assessment of fall protection, lifting devices, excavations, confined spaces, trenching & shoring, electrical, fire/life and other safety requirements associated with construction job sites.
    • Conduct pre-task Job Hazard Analysis, planning, accident investigation root cause analysis, statistical analysis of injury trends.
    • Prepare and implement models for risk exposure and risk management.
    • Research and apply federal, state, and local regulatory requirements as they pertain to construction activities within the State of California.
    • Will cross-train in other areas of safety, and be willing to take on additional duties as requested.

    Job Requirements/Qualifications:

    • This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry or other scientific discipline.
    • An interest and desire to work in construction safety in the following areas: asbestos and lead abatement, fall protection, excavation, confined space entry, scaffolding, trenching, hot work, welding, and other areas of high-risk exposure.
    • Writing, reading and research skills sufficient for reviewing health & safety construction work plans and providing necessary feedback.
    • Ability to read, understand and write coherently on matters pertaining to the California Code of Regulations (CCR) specifically with the Construction Safety Orders and the General Industry Safety Orders (GISO).
    • Some knowledge in one or more of the following areas: industrial hygiene, hazardous materials and Fire/Life Safety is desirable by not required.
    • Knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
    • Excellent social awareness and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively, thoughtfully, respectfully and diplomatically with all employees regardless of position of status.
