    Job Description:

    The NM Government Relations Manager serves as ExxonMobil’s principal point of contact with the governor’s office, state legislators, statewide elected and appointed officials, as well as numerous third party organizations, including trade and business associations in New Mexico. The manager’s primary responsibilities include monitoring policy developments, managing engagements, and developing government relations strategies for all New Mexico state legislative activity and executive branch directives of importance to XTO Energy (ExxonMobil subsidiary and principal client), other ExxonMobil business units and corporate priorities.  The manager is also responsible for helping provide support and issues management for XTO operations as an active participant on the operations team and in close coordination with regulatory teams.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Interface with the governor, staff, cabinet members, legislators and regulatory agencies
    • Prepare and develop government affairs background information and materials for internal clients. These products may include (but are not limited to) political analysis, bill analysis and legislative highlights
    • Provide operations support to XTO operations in the Permian and Delaware Basins in West Texas and New Mexico
    • Coordinate development of company positions and engagement strategies on state government issues (primarily legislative and executive branches) that affect ExxonMobil and XTO Energy in New Mexico
    • Develop political analysis to support execution of business objectives
    • Build relationships with organizations, individuals and regulatory agencies that have influence on government affairs issues

    Job Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Experience in project management and/or negotiating
    • Experience in a Governor’s office, executive agency or legislator’s office Solid understanding of public policy development, legislative and/or regulatory processes, and strategies for leveraging influence
    • Experience working successfully within a large, matrix organization
    • Experience in energy and/or environmental policymaking and advocacy
